
The New Year is almost here, and with it, comes a wave of thrilling new Kdramas ready to captivate fans across the globe. The dramas’ lineups for 2025 are already creating a buzz, with some of our favorite stars returning to the screen and fresh, gripping plots that promise to keep us hooked. So as the dramas slowly reveal for each month, let’s look at what January 2025 has in store for us!

2025 is set to begin with a beautiful and mature office romance Kdrama that has gender roles reversed, and brings a unique take on love. The show is intriguing, beautiful, and set to make our hearts flutter with the characters who are here to show a new side to romance dramas that we are sure to love. Directed by Ham Joon-ho, the drama stars Han Ji-min, Lee Joon-hyuk, Kim Do-hoon, Kim Yoon-hye, and other cast members. The plot follows a successful CEO of a headhunting company and her secretary who is a single father. With contrasting personalities, and one taking care of the other at all times, we see a story that is simply beautiful. Set to premiere on January 3rd, Love Scout will air on SBS every Friday and Saturday, and will be available for streaming on Viki.
Next up is “When The Star Gossips.” One of the highly anticipated dramas of 2025 with a talented star cast, this sci-fi drama has got it all. Directed by Park Shin-woo, the drama stars Lee Min-ho, Gong Hyo-jin, Oh Jung-se, Han Ji-eun, and other cast members. It will follow the story of a group of tourists who have gone to outer space where one of the tourists falls in love with an astronaut at the space station. With rom-com added to the genre list, be ready for a show where love goes beyond the atmosphere and creates chaos unlike any other. This show has an interesting plot and with BTS’ Jin said to have sung the OST for this show, we know that we will all be flocking to check it out soon!
A historical addition to the list starring Cha Joo-Young and Lee Hyun-wook is The Queen Who Crowns. The drama, set set during the Goryeo Dynasty, follows a prince consort who schemes to make her husband the king only to later have him turn his back to her. How will she get back the power she is slowly losing while keeping her family safe? The riling tension that gets on our nerves, and the thriller chaos that rises from the hidden schemes and plots is what we are looking forward to in this drama that is sure to make the best of our expectations. Mark your calendars for January 6th, as this captivating drama graces your screens every Monday and Tuesday on tvN, with global streaming available on Viki!
Motel California, another rom-com arriving this upcoming month, is bringing back the childhood friends to lovers trope back! Stars Lee Se-young, Na In-woo, Choi Min-soo, and others, Motel California follows a young woman who grew up in a motel and returns to her hometown after 12 years due to unexpected reasons and reunites with her first love, unaware that he too has had feelings for her for years. The show may be similar to some of our favourite Twenty23 or Twenty24 K-dramas but that doesn’t mean that we are any less excited for this one. Plus the cast is incredibly talented and we cannot wait to see the chemistry they bring up on screen. Motel California will be available for streaming every Friday and Saturday on Disney Plus and Hulu from January 10th.
UpNext, The Good Man, is a thriller rom-com that has everything we’ve been looking for. Lee Dong-wook, along with Lee Sung-kyung, is back with another role that is sure to get us riled up. He will portray the role of Seok-chul, the eldest son in a family of three generations of gangsters, who struggles to keep his family and loved one safe and happy. Airing on JTBC on January 10th, The show is certainly eye-catching and is one of the highly anticipated dramas of the upcoming year.
Moving on, We have the “Study Group,” a comedy-drama series based on a popular webtoon of the same name. Stars Hwang Min-hyun and Han Ji-eun as the leads, The drama follows a student who wants to be good at studying but is only good at fighting. He later forms a study group at the worst school in town and begins his journey towards the dreaded college entrance exams. This show is intense, entertaining, and exciting fans who have been waiting for this adaptation for a long time. And with the cast who look absolutely perfect for their roles, this show has only garnered more attention as we wait for its release on TV-Ing.
Also among the most anticipated dramas on January’s lineup, is “Unmasked.” Directed by Yoo Seon-dong, Unmasked stars Kim Hye-soo and Jung Sung-il as team leaders to an investigative reporting crew who are driven by a sense of justice to uncover the truth behind mysterious events and save their program from being abolished. They will encounter powerful figures determined to protect their secrets at any cost, navigating a perilous world where the line between truth and lies becomes increasingly blurred. Unmasked mixes thriller mystery with comedy, bringing an another interesting plot, premiering on Disney+ on January 15th. We have a talented crew coming together to bring about a show that is unique and ready to stand as one of the best in this upcoming year.
Premiering on January 24th, We have “The Trauma Code-Heroes on Call.” Adapted from the novel, The Trauma Code is a highly anticipated drama that has been on fans' radar for quite some time now. Starring Ju Ji-hoon, Choo Young-woo, and Ha Young, along with a talented supporting cast, the story revolves around a genius trauma surgeon with experience performing life-saving surgeries in conflict zones. Confident in his skills, he forms a dedicated team to take into the field, tackling high-stakes situations to save lives. Medical dramas like this are always a treat for Kdrama fans, offering not only a glimpse into the challenging lives of doctors but also delivering captivating and thought-provoking storylines.
In addition to the before mentioned, two more K-dramas are expected to premiere in January 2025, though their release dates are yet to be confirmed. The first is The Art of Negotiation, which follows an M&A expert specialized in high-stakes corporate deals, portrayed by Lee Ji-hoon, Alongside his team of skilled lawyers, he navigates the cutthroat world of mergers and acquisitions. The drama is set to take over JTBC's Saturday and Sunday time slot that is currently occupied by The Tale of Lady Ok.
The second is Weak Hero Class 2, the highly anticipated new season of the survival-themed series. The story continues to explore the journey of Yeon Shi Eun, a model student who transfers to Eunjang High School while grappling with the trauma of failing to protect his friends from violence. Park Ji Hoon reprises his role as Yeon Shi Eun, while Choi Hyun Wook will not return for the new season. Joining the cast is Ryeoun, who recently confirmed in an interview with ELLE MEN HK that filming for Weak Hero Class 2 has wrapped. While the drama is expected to air in January 2025, the official release date remains unannounced. With new faces and a gripping storyline, Weak Hero Class 2 promises adrenaline-pumping confrontations and unexpected twists that fans won’t want to miss.
